Moving to TallyPrime or setting up a new company for GST? A careful initial setup saves time when invoices, returns and reports need to match. This practical checklist is for businesses in Vatva and across Ahmedabad. It covers the information to gather, the settings to review and the checks to make before the first live invoice.
1. Gather your business and GST details
Keep your registered business name, GSTIN, state, billing address and contact information ready. In TallyPrime, enable GST for the company and enter the registration details before creating GST-compliant invoices. If your business has more than one GST registration, review the registration used for each transaction.
2. Review masters before billing
Check party masters, stock items and ledgers. Enter the correct GSTIN and address for customers and suppliers, and confirm the HSN/SAC codes and tax rates that apply to your products or services. Incorrect masters often cause avoidable invoice corrections and reconciliation work. Your accountant or tax adviser should confirm the applicable tax treatment.
3. Decide whether e-invoicing and e-way bills apply
Not every business has the same compliance obligations. If e-invoicing or e-way bills apply to your transactions, configure the relevant details in TallyPrime and test the process before relying on it for dispatch. Tally’s official GST setup guide explains the company-level settings; its e-invoicing setup guide covers the additional one-time steps.
4. Test a complete invoice cycle
Create a sample sales invoice and inspect the printed format, tax calculation, place of supply and party details. Then review the GST reports and correct any master-data errors before live billing begins. If you need a custom invoice format or management report, define the fields and approval process before customization.
5. Protect your data and train your team
Decide who can create or alter masters, how often backups run and how a backup will be restored. Train billing and accounts staff on the exact voucher workflow they will use. A short test with real-world examples can reveal problems before month-end.
Which TallyPrime licence fits your team?
Silver is intended for one user on one machine at a time. Gold allows multiple concurrent users on the same local network. If staff work across branches or remotely, discuss the access design before buying a licence; do not assume a LAN licence can be shared across unrelated locations. See Tally’s official licensing guidance and ask for a current quote rather than relying on an old price list.
Before moving from Tally.ERP 9
Keep a verified backup of the original company data and note the current release and licence details. Plan the migration outside peak billing hours, then compare opening balances, outstanding invoices, stock and key GST reports before users switch to the new system. Preserve the old backup until the new workflow has been checked by your accounts team.
